I'd watch Kai if I were you. Quicker pace and with almost all filler removed.

i have watched both and tbh i love the orignal more than kai
kai has more detailed lines but dbz has more intensity
and bro its been a year so its pointless to comment now

the chronology is,
First is Dragon ball
Then Dragon ball Z
Then Dragon ball z Kai
Then Dragon ball GT(don't know if its cannon)
And Dragon ball super is like a weird spinoff, but it's in between DBZ kai and DB GT but hey I am not complaining.

If you don't want to watch episodes that are not tham important for the story you should watch Dragon ball,Dragon Ball Z and Then Db super those are the important ones but kai and gt are fun too.

Who knows just watch both I guess
